<biogHist>
Robert Lennox was a pioneer of both ship-board and land-based mechanical refrigeration in Great Britain and Victoria, that enabled the successful exportation of perishable and frozen produce from the colonies to England. From 1890, for more than 32 years, he was the refrigerating engineer for the Melbourne City Council, was a founder of the Victorian Institute of Refrigeration, and was a well-respected engineer across Australia and overseas.
