In 1995 South Australian Ports Corporation also known as Ports Corp was established. Ports Corp was a statutory authority and took over the responsibilities and functions of the former Department of Marine and Harbours (1967 - 1995). Ports Corps works closely with private industry and other government agencies to manage public port assets like wharves, establish and maintain navigational aids, and support shipping services. In 2001 Ports Corps was privatised and its responsibilities passed to a private company called Flinders Ports.
