<biogHist>
Western Australian had two concurrently operating departments responsible for water supply, sewerage and drainage, the Metropolitan Water Supply, Sewerage and Drainage Department (1910 - 1964) and the Water Supply, Sewerage and Drainage Department (1912 - 1921). The main distinction between these two department appears to be their area of operation, one metropolitan the other country and rural. In 1921 the functions of the country and rural department were passed on to the Public Works Department (1901 - 1985).
