In 1919, the Western Australian Institution of Engineers amalgamated with other existing engineering associations, to form the "Institution of Engineers, Australia" as one of the Institution's eleven 'Foundation Societies', and its members transferred to the Institution as foundation Associate Members.

The meeting to form the Western Australian Institution of Engineers, was held in Forrest Chambers, Perth on 5 October 1909. Over one hundred engineers throughout the State had expressed their intention to join the institution. Its membership was to "... include Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulic, Mining, or other professional engineers".

Under the 1909 "Rules and Bye-Laws", its objects were "the advancement of engineering knowledge and practice and the maintenance of a high professional standard among its members; and the promotion of the professional interests of engineers, and the improvement of their professional status."

The Proceedings of the Western Australian Institution of Engineers were published in ten Volumes from 1910 until 1920, and contain over 60 articles.
