<biogHist>
The Colony of Western Australia was established as an official British colony in 1829. The colony was overseen by a Governor, gaining responsible self-governance from Britain in 1890 and becoming a state of Australia in 1901. Multiple indigenous nations and communities live with and manage the land Europeans refer to as Western Australia. This relationship extends far beyond 1829 and continues into the present and future.
