In 2015 the Department of National Parks, Sport and Racing was established as a result of the re-structure and renaming of the Department of National Parks, Recreation, Sport and Racing (2012 - 2015). It was responsible for the management of marine and national parks in Queensland, as well as conservation. In 2017 the department was abolished and its functions divided between three newly created departments. The conservation and park management activities became the responsibility of the Department of Environment and Science (2017 - ).
