He joined the CSIRO Division of Animal Health on 1965 to establish the parasitology laboratory in Parkville, Victoria. For the next 30 years he worked on treatments to overcome worm egg contamination of pastures in areas of high winter rainfall, resistance to broad-spectrum anthelmintics, improved delivery of anthelmintic doses, and the ecology of free-living larval stages of ovine and bovine nematodes. Treatments he developed in collaboration with colleagues have proved cost-effective and been adopted world-wide. With the closure of the parasitology laboratory Anderson joined the Mackinnon Project of the University of Melbourne School of Veterinary Science at Werribee. Included in his publications were Gastro-intestinal infections in sheep in Australia (1978) and the companion volume on cattle in 1983.
