The manuscript was based on a series of papers and studies conducted by Cooke and George Massee at Kew Herbarium on specimens shipped from Australia to England. Unfortunately, the transportation of the fungi proved problematic and many of the entries in the manuscript are inaccurate due to damage and ageing of the specimens on their journey from Australia to Mordecai Cooke.
