He made extensive surveys and collections in all except the alpine and extreme western areas of the state. During WWII part of his service was with the Third Entomological Unit concerned mainly with malaria control. Between 1951 and 1966 Wallace was entomologist with the Commonwealth Institute of Entomology and served extended periods in British Guiana, Gambia, St Helena, Sarawak and Malaysia.
