<biogHist>
<abstract>Margaret Keats was the first Australian Women to become a University trained veterinarian and the first woman to be employed as a veterinarian by any Australian government.</abstract>
<p>Born in country New South Wales in 1895 Margaret Keats grew up caring for cattle on her family property. To provide better care to cattle she enrolled in the Melbourne University Veterinary School in 1918 graduating in 1922. In 1925 Keats was employed as a Inspector of Stock on the New South Wales - Victoria Border. She went on to practice in Kerang Victoria until her death in 1970.</p>
