Her research has focused on genomic medicine, inherited myopathies and genes that influence muscle performance. In 2010 North led the establishment of the Australasian Neuromuscular Network, an alliance of over 400 organisations supporting the translation of research into clinical practice. She also heads the Australian Genomic Health Alliance and the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health which facilitate data sharing and the implementation of genomic medicine into clinical practice.
