In 1843 She married James Hodgkinson (1811 - 1892) and they lived for over 20 years on 'Woodstock Station'. They moved to New South Wales in 1866, becoming the first settlers at Lennox Head at the mouth of the Richmond River. Between 1870 and 1888 Hodgkinson collected plant specimens in the local area, including fungi and some type specimens. Her collections were sent to Victorian Government Botanist Ferdinand von Mueller in Melbourne. The National Herbarium of Victoria holds over 500 of her specimens.
