For over 20 years he was a leader of the CSIRO program to introduce African species into Australia. His research focused on the contribution these beetles make to soil biota and soil health, and their potential in reducing fly populations. In 2003 he established Dung Beetle Solutions Australia to continue research on the introduction of other species of dung beetle into Australia and to promote their benefits in sustainable land management to landowners, environmental organisations and government agencies.
