<biogHist>
<abstract>Paul Adam is an ecologist whose expertise is in the salt marshes, coastal heathlands and rainforests particularly of New South Wales. He joined he School of Botany at the University of New South Wales in 1978, later becoming the Head of the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences. Among his publications have been <span style="font-style:italic">Saltmarsh ecology</span> (1990) and <span style="font-style:italic">Australian rainforests</span> (1992). Adam has played a central role in environmental policy development in New South Wales through his long-term membership of the Nature Conservation Council, National Parks advisory committees and the Land and Environment Court. Between 1996 and 2004 he was a member of the New South Wales Scientific Committee which determines the conservation status of endangered species.</abstract>
