<abstract>James Roberts was the Principal Designing Engineer in the New South Wales Railway Department, and one of the leading bridge design engineers in New South Wales. The highlights of his career include the design of the steel trussed arch roof over the main concourse, Sydney Central Station, all the North Coast Railway bridges and the 1932 double-deck bascule bridge over the Clarence River at Grafton.</abstract>
