David Blair is an experimental physicist whose pioneering work in precision measurement science includes microwave cavity electro mechanics, the invention of the first ultra-precise sapphire clock, and the study of three mode interactions that underpinned the detection of gravitational waves. He led the establishment of the Australian International Gravitational Research Centre in Western Australia which helped enable the detection of gravitational waves. Blair was appointed Winthrop Professor of Physics at the University of Western Australia in 1998.
