<abstract>Harold Irwin, a civil engineering contractor from Ballarat, was a pioneer in building in reinforced concrete.</abstract>
<p>Harold Irwin, between 1911 and 1938, constructed more than 20 bridges, as well as water supply projects across Victoria.</p>
<p>Major Works included: the peace memorial reinforced concrete bridge over the Dandenong Creek, Mordialloc (1918); the Calder Highway bridge over the Avoca River, Charlton (1925); and working as foreman for the construction of the Rubicon hydro-electric scheme (1926).</p>
