She sent these specimens to Victorian Government Botanist Ferdinand von Mueller whom she met in 1877. The National Herbarium of Victoria holds over 200 of her specimens. Forrest was a founding member of the West Australian Society of Art and acquainted with fellow botanical artists Marianne North and Ellis Rowan. The Art Gallery of Western Australia holds a collection of her wildflower paintings. Margaret River and Elvire River, both in Western Australia, were named in her honour.
