<biogHist>
Margaret Forrest was a noted botanical painter who collected plant specimens, including fungi, mainly in coastal areas of Western Australia between 1878 and 1893. She sent these specimens to Victorian Government Botanist Ferdinand von Mueller whom she met in 1877. The National Herbarium of Victoria holds over 200 of her specimens. Forrest was a founding member of the West Australian Society of Art and acquainted with fellow botanical artists Marianne North and Ellis Rowan. The Art Gallery of Western Australia holds a collection of her wildflower paintings. Margaret River and Elvire River, both in Western Australia, were named in her honour.
