She was encouraged to do so having seen an advertisement in a Western Australian newspaper, placed by Victorian Government Botanist Ferdinand von Mueller, asking settlers in outback regions to send him specimens. Her main collecting areas were in the southwest of Western Australia as far north as Geraldton. Over 1200 specimens sent to Mueller are in the National Herbarium of Victoria. The plant genus Croninia was named in her honour. Her cousins Margaret Cronin (1870 - 1929) and Eleanor (Ellen) Sarah Grover (1865 - 1932) have been noted as also sending specimens to Mueller.
