During WWII he had worked on air navigation aids, especially wireless and radar. On arriving in Melbourne he joined he Postmaster-General's Department where he was a member of the team working on the introduction of television to Australia. He gained considerable renown from his work on waveform testing, video transmission circuits and relay links. During the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne he was responsible for the transmission of television images to Sydney. His work helped ensure that the P.M.G. Research Laboratories were seen as a major contributor to television signal research. In 1964 Seyler became Assistant Director General of the Research Laboratories. He was active in professional organisations, serving as President of the Institute of Radio and Electronic Engineers Australia.
