Charles Mulholland was Government Geologist for the Geological Survey of New South Wales from 1947 to 1954. For over 20 years he was involved in regional surveys, particularly for ground water and mineral resources, and the geology of the Snowy Mountains. As Government Geologist, Mulholland oversaw major projects including search for uranium sources in the Broken Hill region, the Snowy Mountain Scheme, the mapping of western coalfields for open-cut mining, and the production of new geological maps of New South Wales. Mulholland became a senior administrator within the New South Wales Department of Mines.
