Under his tenure the Hospital became a centre for the training of doctors. His program to improve nurse training included the publication of a nursing handbook that was used as a text for many years. Craig retrained as a radiologist when a soap allergy caused him to cease his surgical practice: for over 20 years he was in private practice and Honorary Radiologist at Launceston General Hospital. He was active in professional organisations, including serving long terms as President or Chairman of the Medical Council of Tasmania, the Tasmanian Branch of the College of Radiologists of Australasia and the Tasmanian Cancer Committee. Craig was enthusiastic about the history of Tasmania and active in the foundation and management of the Tasmanian Branch of the National Trust of Australia.
