<abstract>Robert Ouvrier is a paediatrician internationally renowned as a leader in paediatric neurology. His research had centred on the natural history and pathophysiology of peripheral neuropathic conditions, understanding CSF amino acids, neurotransmitters and drug metabolism in epilepsy, and developing screening protocols for impairments of higher mental function in children. He played a key role in establishing and leading the Institute for Neuromuscular Research at the Children's Hospital, Westmead, Sydney. Ouvrier has been active in professional organisations, holding executive positions including as President of the International Child Neurology Association.</abstract>
