After changing its name in 1930 to the Entomological Club of Victoria, the Society has had its current name since 1935. It's principal aim is the advancement and dissemination of entomological knowledge in all its aspects. The Society has, since its inception, welcomed amateur entomologists as members. After suffering a decline during WWII, the Society ceased to function in 1942. Its revival in 1961 was largely through the efforts of John Le Souef, who was President until 1962 and in two subsequent terms. The Society holds regular meetings, as well as excursions and camps, and maintains the ENTREC (ENTomological REcords) database. Its principal publication is the Victorian entomologist (ISSN 0310-6780), which in 1971 superceded the newsletter Wings and stings. The Le Souef Memorial Award, which commemorates John Le Souef, has been presented since 1983 to amateur entomologists who have made significant contributions to the study of Australian insects.
