Frederick Kenny was a medical practitioner who arrived in Melbourne in 1889 and for the next seven years was established in a general medical practice. Thereafter until his death his restless nature led him to practice in many places in Australia. During WWI he served with the Australian Navy. Kenny became interested in Australia's flora and, with encouragement, from Frederick Bailey, Queensland Government Botanist, collected specimens from Queensland and New South Wales. The Queensland Herbarium holds over 1000 specimens collected between 1905 and 1924.
