Thereafter until his death his restless nature led him to practice in many places in Australia. During WWI he served with the Australian Navy. Kenny became interested in Australia's flora and, with encouragement, from Frederick Bailey, Queensland Government Botanist, collected specimens from Queensland and New South Wales.
