The Murray-Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) was established under the Water Act 2007 and replaced the Murray-Darling Basin Commission as an independent statutory agency. The MDBA was established to measure, monitor and record details about the Murray-Darling Basin's water resources and ecosystems, to communicate and engage with state and federal governments and the wider public about the Murray-Darling Basin and to conduct research on the Murray-Darling Basin.
