Archibald Collins was associated with the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney for over 40 years, as physician and a Member of the Board from 1935 to 1955. He was a leading figure in the New South Wales Branch of the British Medical Association and ultimately served a 5-year term as President of the Federal body. During this time he played a central part of the long-running dispute between the medical profession and the Federal Government about the future of Australia's health services. With the establishment of the National Health Service Collins chaired two of its influential Advisory Committees. For many years he was Honorary Director and Consulting Physician to the New South Wales Division of the Australian Red Cross Society.
