<abstract>Leslie Latham was a physician who as Chairman of the Board of Stewart Lectures in Medicine at the University of Melbourne for 15 years was responsible for the instruction and examination in medicine in Victoria. With colleagues he laid the foundations for clinical teaching at St Vincent's Hospital, Melbourne, now one of the University's principal clinical schools. Latham was active in professional medical associations, serving terms as President of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the Victorian Branch of the British Medical Association. He was Deputy Chancellor of the University of Melbourne from 1947 to 1949</abstract>
