<abstract>Bill Johnston was a physician who served with distinction in both World Wars. He saw action in Europe, the Middle East and New Guinea and, particularly in WWII, played a central role in managing the medical needs of the armed forces. Johnston was involved at senior levels of the Australian Red Cross Society and the St John Ambulance Brigade. He was a foundation Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and was Vice-President 1958 - 1960.</abstract>
