Much of her work was done at the Heron Island Research Station on the Great Barrier Reef of which she was an Advisory Board Member from 1981. Cameron collaborated with Bob Endean in studying the Crown-of-Thorns Starfish and campaigning in relation to the damage the Starfish were causing to the Reef.
