Tom Sault was a cabinet maker by trade but a naturalist in inclination. He joined the Field Naturalists Club of Victoria in 1962, immersing himself in several of its special interest groups. For over 45 years he was a stalwart of the Club, serving several terms on Council and as President 1970 - 1972. In particular he played a central role on the activities of the Fauna Survey Group where his knowledge of coastal heathlands and the area around Eildon came to the fore. After retiring Sault moved to the Mornington Peninsula and became involved in a number of local naturalists' and conservation groups. His extensive knowledge of the Peninsula's flora, fauna and geology was complied into <span style="font-style:italic">The Mornington Peninsula through the eye of a naturalist</span> (2003).
