Geoffrey Kaye was an anaesthetist who travelled to the United Kingdom, Germany and the United States in the early 1930s the further his knowledge of the field. He edited the first Australian textbook on the subject, <span style="font-style:italic">Practical Anaesthesia</span> (1932). Kaye held positions as anaesthetist at the Alfred and Dental Hospitals in Melbourne, and taught at the University of Melbourne. He strove to raise the standards and standing of anaesthesia in Australia, playing a key role in the establishment of the Australian Society of Anaesthetics. His interest in the design and production of anaesthetic equipment led to his developing for the Australian Society of Anaesthetists a museum of such devices. In 1958 this was named the Geoffrey Kaye Museum. From 1987 the Association's annual Presidential Address has been named the Geoffrey Kaye Oration.
