After three years post-graduate training in the United Kingdom he returned to Launceston where he established his practice and provided honorary services to the regional hospitals. He was head of the orthopaedic unit at Launceston General Hospital which he established as a centre of excellence. His particular interest in paediatric orthopaedics resulted in treatment being managed locally instead of patients having to travel interstate.
