He undertook ground-breaking work on beta blockers, going against convention that they shouldn't be used for cardiac patients, transforming treatment for such patients. Krum was noted for taking information on how drugs worked and the results of trials and translating them into clinical guidelines and recommendations for treatment. He also explored the relationship between cardiac disease and diabetes and kidney disease, participating and leading a number of global studies. Krum founded and led the Monash Centre of Cardiovascular Research and Education in Therapeutics.
