Charles Conigrave was a zoologist with the Museum in Perth who led the Kimberley Exploring Expedition of 1911. The expedition made significant collections of zoological and botanical specimens for the Museum. In exploring the unknown country between the Cambridge Gulf and Napier Broome Bay, Conigrave's party discovered the Berkeley and King George Rivers. His numerous reports were published extensively in the newspapers, accompanied by photographs, particularly of Aboriginal art.
