Rod Seppelt is recognised as Australia's leading Antarctic bryologist. He was a Principal Research Scientist with the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) and Curator of the AAD Herbarium. He made more than 36 visits to Antarctica and subantarctic islands over almost four decades. During this time he made significant collections of the bryophyte flora. The ADD Herbarium, containing over 30,000 of his specimens, is now in the Tasmanian Herbarium. Seppelt is also one of Australia's most accomplished botanical illustrators, specialising in depicting bryophytes.
