The HEARing CRC was established in 2007. It was the third hearing-related Cooperative Research Centre (CRC), replacing the CRC for Cochlear Implant and Hearing Aid Innovation. The first centre - the CRC for Cochlear Implant, Speech and Hearing Research operated from 1992 to 1999. The HEARing CRC carried on the work of the previous centres and branched out into research on the clinical processes associated with hearing. In 2014, The HEARing CRC was extended for a further five years. By 2106, the centre had begun new research work on the prevention of hearing loss.
