Robert Adlard is recognised internationally as a leader in the field of parasite biodiversity and particularly as an expert on myxozoan parasites of fishes. In his research Adlard concentrates on understanding the biology, ecology and diversity of parasites of marine organisms, with view to solving major economic problems of significance to Australian and international fisheries. Adlard works on rationalising systematics of myxozoan parasites to provide benchmarks for study and diagnosis of fish pathogens. As Senior Curator of Parasitology at Queensland Museum Adlard is responsible for what is estimated to be 5th largest collection of such material in the world, and for the International Reference Centre for Avian Haematazoa. Adlard is a member of the Steering Committee for the MalariaRCN, a research co-ordinated network to promote research on Malaria and related Haemosporidian parasites of wildlife. He is also Regional Resource Expert for the Network of Aquaculture Centres of the Asia-Pacific and Chair of the National Reference Group for Neptune Project, the Australian aquatic animal health web-platform.
