He is recognised as expert in the crustacean parasites of fish, protozoan parasites of oysters and baculoviruses of prawns. His research interests extend to the application of marine parasitology to fisheries management and aquaculture, especially in the abalone, oyster, prawn, and sea-caged tuna fisheries.
