AACR2 Peter Busby was an audiologist who collaborated with Graeme Clark in the bionic ear research program. In 1979, he joined Clark as a research assistant and was involved in studies with the first recipients of the prototype cochlear implant. He was to co-author several publications with Clark and in 1994, was named as a co-inventor with him on the patent entitled Cochlear Implant Devices. In 2000, he joined Cochlear Limited, where he conducted research in the psychophysical and electrophysiological properties of electrical stimulation and clinical outcomes. In 2010, he was a project leader at the HEARing CRC.

Busby joined the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Melbourne in 1979. He obtained a master of arts degree from Australian National University in 1980, majoring in linguistics and acoustic phonetics. He later obtained a diploma in audiology in 1981 and PhD in 1998, both at the University of Melbourne. In 2006, Busby was an honorary senior research fellow at both the Department of Otolaryngology and the Cooperative Research Centre for Cochlear Implant and Hearing Aid Innovation. In that year, he also worked as a principal clinical research specialist at Cochlear Limited.
