Crawford Munro was Professor of Civil Engineering at New South Wales University of Technology (later University of New South Wales) from 1954 to 1969. He planned the new faculty building, introduced new courses, encouraged further education for practising engineers and promoted the need for research alongside teaching. Munro's main area of research was hydrology. He helped establish the Water Research Foundation of Australia and served on State and National committees and as consultant on a variety of projects, particularly in retirement. His principal text was <span style="font-style:italic">Australian water resources and their development</span> (1974). Munro served on the Council of the Institution of Engineers, Australia from 1962 to 1974. In 1992, the Centre for Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of New South Wales was named in his honour. The "C H Munro memorial oration" delivered at the biennial Hydrology and Water Resources Symposium, is also named in his honour.
