<biogHist>
<abstract>Isla Blomfield began nursing a the Royal Prince Alfred hospital in 1896 and qualified in 1899. She obtained a obstetrics certificate from Queen Charlotte's Lying-in Hospital in London in 1901 and, in 1909, toured hospitals in the United States, China and Berlin and represented Australasian Trained Nurses' Association at the International Council of Nurses' congress in London. Blomfield qualified as a health inspector upon her return to Sydney with certifications from the Royal Sanitary Institute in London. She was nurse-in-charge of the Alice Rawson School for Mothers and appointed nurse inspector by the Sydney Municipal Council's health committee. She played a pivotal role in neonatal welfare education and care. She was a member of the Playgrounds Association, the Health Society of New South Wales, the committee on public health on the National Council of Women, and Board of Social Study and Training, the Professional Women Workers' Association, and the Women's Club.</abstract>
