Arthur Beggs started his career on his father's property, Buln Gherin, as a pastoralist. He bought property with his brother in 1928 and inherited the family occupation of sheep-breeding. He was a member of the Victorian and Australian stud merino breeders' associations and became the chairman of both organisations. He served as vice-president of the Graziers' Association of Victoria and the Australian Woolgrowers' and Graziers' Council. Beggs also became a member of the Australian Wool Board from 1964-1972 and the wool advisory committee. He served as a field officer on a project for the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research in 1928 to investigate the nutritional value of pastures. He was a member of the School of Veterinary Science at the University of Melbourne from 1962-1978. Beggs was a member of the Australian Pastoral Research Trust and became president of the Melbourne College of Textiles and the Melbourne Will School's advisory council. He supported the establishment of the Marcus Oldham Agricultural College and became its chairman.
