In 1906, he graduated from the Royal Veterinary College and became a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. In 1907, he returned to Sydney and became a dairy supervisor at the Department of Health. The following year he worked as a veterinary surgeon at the stock and brands branch of the Department of Agriculture and lectured at Hawkesbury Agricultural and Sydney Technical colleges. In 1922, he lectured at the University of Sydney on veterinary jurisprudence and epidemiology, also serving as an external examiner. After some time in the military, he rejoined the Department of Agriculture in 1924 as chief veterinary surgeon. In 1924 Henry was the foundation president of the Veterinary Surgeons Board. In 1940 this department was restructured and he became chief of the division of animal industry.
