He is known for his work on the highly secretive project to develop Australia's polymer banknote in the 1970s, and worked in particular on the development of optically variable devices to protect the notes from counterfeiting. In 1976 he and his colleague Alan Wilson made a breakthrough in the successful application of the electron beam lithography technology being used, which paved the way for the rollout of the note in 1988. It was the first polymer banknote issued to be issued by any central bank worldwide, and the technology went on to become the global standard. 1997 1997 Career event - Retired from the CSIRO Quint, Graham (19320430-20070201)
