Starting in 1871 she made a number of journeys over the next 14 years, visiting five continents and 17 countries including, between August 1880 and January 1881, Australia. While in Western Australia she met fellow artist, Ellis Rowan, and taught her how to paint with oils. The Marianne North Gallery in the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, which was built during her lifetime, houses over 830 of her paintings arranged as she wished. Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (1759 - )
