Joseph Maiden contacted Crawford after the death of von Mueller to secure his collections for the National Herbarium, Sydney. Crawford discovered one of the then named Eucalyptus globulus growing in the New England district of New South Wales. 1922 1922 Taxonomy event - Eucalyptus crawfordii Maiden & Blakely (a reputed hybrid between E. acaciformis and E. saligna (Pryor & Johnson, 1971; Chippendale, 1988)) was named for Crawford.
