He collected for several botanists including Victorian Government Botanist Ferdinand von Mueller, and is known for his discovery of the palm Ptychosperma alexandrae. He is also commemorated in other species such as Agaricus, Boronia, Cyperus, Dendrobium, Eremophila, Pimelea, and Ricinocarpos. The National Herbarium of Victoria holds over 2,000 of Bowman's specimens. 1849 1851?
