Edward Bowman was a botanical collector who, after sporadic employment in the decade from 1849, became a prolific collector of plant specimens in New South Wales, and in Queensland from 1861. He collected for several botanists including Victorian Government Botanist Ferdinand von Mueller, and is known for his discovery of the palm Ptychosperma alexandrae. He is also commemorated in other species such as Agaricus, Boronia, Cyperus, Dendrobium, Eremophila, Pimelea, and Ricinocarpos. The National Herbarium of Victoria holds over 2,000 of Bowman's specimens.
