Dr Hermann Beckler MD was a German medical practitioner who also collected a large number of botanical specimens, when he lived in Australia in the second half of the 19th century. He was also employed by Ferdinand Mueller at Royal Botanical Gardens Melbourne from 1859 to 1860, collecting around the Hastings, Macleay, Richmond and Clarence Rivers in New South Wales, and Moreton Bay, Queensland
<p>Herrmann Beckler accompanied the Burke and Wills Victoria Exploring Expedition ( 1860-1861) as medical officer and botanist. He returned to Germany in 1862. He was known for the high standard of his collections, and approximately 16 species were named in honour of his contributions, including species of the genera Cleisostoma, Dendrobium, Ficus, Helichrysum, Hibiscus, Ixora and Myrtus.</p>
