<biogHist>
The Australian National Herbarium is located on site at the National Botanic Gardens in Canberra. The Herbarium contains the largest collection of specimen of Australian plants in Australia.In 2014 the Australian National Herbarium, together with other natural history collections in CSIRO, were brought together administratively to form the National Research Collections Australia. The Herbarium is a member of the Council of the Heads of Australian Herbaria (CHAH), a collaborative association of Australia's principal herbaria, and contributes specimen information Australia's Virtual Herbarium (AVH), an initiative of CHAH.
<p>The Australian National Herbarium resulted from the amalgamation of several herbaria managed by the Australian government over the years, including CSIRO herbaria, the Forest Research Institute's Eucalypt and Atherton Rainforest Collection, and the Australian Botanic Gardens Herbarium. Previously known as 'Herbarium Australiense', the CSIRO's core collection was renamed 'Australian National Herbarium' in 1984.</p>
